Catch Up!
Saturday, 20 June 2009
So much has happened since March I’m not sure where to start!! Hooping has been in the media so much in the past few weeks it’s really starting to kick off and grow here in the UK- excellent news for us all!
On a personal level I’ve completed my Hoopgirl levels 2 & 3 teacher training and once again was totally inspired by Christabel (what a doll!) as well as Sharna Rose and Diana Defries who were simply fantastic.
I’m running 2 more hoop classes for Seven Islands Leisure Centre which are permanently packed and the ladies there are coming on in leaps and bounds which gives me a real kick.
Polestars (the company I teach pole dancing for) have also decided to start Hula Hooping Hen Parties as one of their options which promises to be absolutely AWESOME!
Looks like 2009 is going to be a great year for the Hoop!
Hoop Club 2
Sunday, 8 March 2009
My second Saturday Hoop Club on 7th March was fantastic! Even more people came along and I almost ran out of hoops! Once again, the feedback was ‘More Hoop Club!’. I am currently searching for another venue to use when Greenwich West is unavailable, I want to keep the Club affordable- pocket money price really- and am struggling to find anywhere as big and reasonably priced however, as soon as I find something suitable I’ll let you know!
On another note, I’m taking hooping into local schools in South London in the very near future. This is a very exciting development and will bring hooping, to a whole new group of people as parents and pupils start exercising, socialising and having fun together.
I am determined to make this happen so watch this space!
HOOP CLUB ROCKS!
Thursday, 19 February 2009
My first Saturday Hoop Club was such a HUGE success that I couldn’t quite believe it! I was quite nervous the night before, worrying I’d be the only one there with my Mum and Boyfriend but when I arrived and found people waiting and more and more turning up it was a great feeling. I had some complete newbies but with minimal instruction and some great tunes they got stuck straight in. It was excellent to see people experimenting with different size hoops or with 2 hoops and chatting to each other making new friends and learning new skills.
It got me thinking that, as adults in particular, we have very little in the way of activities that are solely for us at this kind of time on a Saturday. Remember being 10 years old? There was always something really FUN to do on a Saturday- roller skating, water slides at the swimming pool, you’d go with your mates socialise, be really active and it would be Fab! Being a teenager meant not wanting to pursue childish hobbies and distancing
Saturday Hoop Club!
Sunday, 8 February 2009
14th February- Valentines Day is going to be my first Saturday Hoop Club. I’m very excited and looking forward to offering people an alternative to going shopping on a Saturday afternoon. Initially I’m going to run the club as a monthly event but if it proves popular it would be nice to make it a bit more regular perhaps every other week. I’m also keen to get people with other skills to come and join in, jugglers or people that use poi for example.
My weekly classes have been doing really well and I’m seeing new faces each week so it has been an excellent start to 2009 and I’m certain it will only get better!
New Year Hooping!
Thursday, 15 January 2009
Happy New Year!!! After a few weeks off for Christmas and New Year it’s so great to be back hooping and catch up with fellow hooping fanatics. First week back on the 6th January was excellent fun, I think we were all a bit stiff the next day but happy to start the new year with good hooping intentions!
Second week back, 13th January, Pat Greenwood, a journalist from my local paper the Greenwich Time came along with a photographer to get some pictures and information on the class and will be writing an article which should be out soon- very exciting! I decided to run the class as a free taster to kickstart the new year, generate some more interest and hopefully create some more hooping addicts- it went brilliantly, the class was PACKED and I nearly ran out of hoops!
On 11th January, I also attended the lovely Diana Defries Sunday Hoop Club up in Highgate, North London which was EXCELLENT, I dragged my mum and a couple of friends who also had an amazing time. I was very inspired
